St. Louis Community College women’s basketball coach Shelly Ethridge recently collected her 500th career victory and 200th at STLCC with a 77-53 win over North Central Missouri College on Feb. 2
Ethridge is in her 10th season as the head coach at STLCC. She has led her teams to four NJCAA Women’s Division II National Tournaments and seven 20-win campaigns, including a school-record 26 straight victories in the 2016-17 season.
That 2016-17 team finished fifth at the NJCAA Championship Tournament and also earned the prestigious B.J. Graber Sportsmanship Award. Chrishana Wilson was named to the NJCAA All-America first team, the sixth STLCC player coached by Ethridge to earn the honor.
The Archers are currently 16-5 and ranked No. 19 in the latest NJCAA poll. They host Three Rivers tonight at 5:30 p.m. in the Forest Park gymnasium.
Ethridge has been named the Region XVI Coach of the Year five times, District Coach of the Year four times and the Missouri Community College Athletic Conference Coach of the Year twice. She is 200-88 at STLCC.
Ethridge career record stands at 500-197 in 26 seasons at the collegiate level. She also has coached at Southwestern Illinois College and the University of Missouri-St. Louis. At UMSL, Ethridge led the Tritons to their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2000 and compiled six straight winning seasons in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
As a player, Ethridge was a four-year starter at Eastern Illinois University. She competed in the 1990 NCAA Division II Tournament and was a member of the 1991 U.S. Olympic Festival team.
