Toni Stovall, Sharon Sanders, Garret Macko and Ting Ming Wei

Four St. Louis Community College students were honored for outstanding leadership on their campuses.

Toni Stovall, Sharon Sanders, Garret Macko and Ting Ming Wei each received the 2019 Student Leadership Award from the Missouri Community College Association.

The MCCA Student Leadership Awards are presented annually to an exceptional student leader from each of Missouri’s colleges/campuses. Recipients are identified by their college/campus president/chancellor and chief student affairs officer.

Toni Stovall is pursuing an associate degree in human services at Florissant Valley and was selected as a Journey to College Student Ambassador for the Missouri Department of Higher Education. In this role, she represents STLCC and other college students throughout Missouri. As vice president of the Student Government Association, Stovall assisted with the planning and the execution of the annual SGA Holiday party, Flomation Event, Club Expo, the Caribbean Fest, and is currently planning the Student Government Awards Banquet. Stovall maintains a 3.3 GPA and plans to transfer to the University of Missouri-St. Louis following graduation.

Sharon Sanders will graduate with an associate degree in human services in May 2020. She has overcome inconceivable obstacles to be where she is today. She is currently the executive vice president of Forest Park’s Xi Epsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, where she has led numerous community service and honors projects. Her career aspiration is to counsel the children of incarcerated and drug-addicted parents. She discovered her passion for children while working as a tutor in an after-school program.

Garret Macko will graduate in May with an associate degree in general transfer studies. He plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and explore various other academic interests in fields such as economics and literature. Macko has served as president of Meramec’s Xi Lambda chapter, as well as president of the Socratic Society.

While at Wildwood, Ting Ming Wei served as president of the Business Club, was an active member of the Phi Theta Kappa chapter, and participated in many service learning projects with the Volunteers of Wildwood. He also performed regularly at the campus Open Mic Nights.
