Dr. Mary Schmidt Campbell will focus on encouraging women to lead creative lives.
In recognition of Women’s History Month, St. Louis Community College will host an array of events throughout March. From a keynote speaker to art exhibits featuring students and local artists to film viewings and discussions, open mic poetry and more, there are many opportunities to participate.
St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley will welcome Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D., president of Spelman College in Atlanta, as a keynote speaker. Campbell’s presentation, “Composing a Life: Discovering How to Lead a Creative Life,” will encourage women to discover and lead creative lives.
Campbell became the 10th president of Spelman, a leading women’s college dedicated to the education and global leadership of black women, in August 2015. Her career experience includes serving as dean of New York University’s Tisch School of Arts for more than 20 years; executive director of the Studio Museum in Harlem, the first accredited Black fine arts museum in the country; and being appointed by President Barack Obama as vice chair of the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. She is the author of “An American Odyssey: The Life and Work of Romare Bearden.”
