Winners Selected for Wildwood Juried Student Art Exhibit

This piece by Kim Kordonowy captured first place in the Juried Student Art Exhibition at STLCC-Wildwood.

Each spring, the art department at St. Louis Community College-Wildwood sponsors a Juried Student Art Exhibition.

This year, the exhibit featured more than 100 pieces of student artwork created during the fall and spring semesters.

From drawings and paintings, to sculptures, design works and collage works, the annual student exhibition is a competitive event for all students in the art department. Like real-world art exhibits, Wildwood’s student show is juried by a professional artist who selects artwork for artistic merit awards.

Artwork by Cher Petrovic earned second place.

This year, Nancy Newman Rice juried the exhibit. Newman Rice described Wildwood’s student show as one that showcases, “Exceptional technical skills and a surprising development of creative directions.”

In addition to the jury-selected awards, the campus community voted on the People’s Choice Award. This year, Kevin Bullock received the award.

Winners by category include:

  • First Place – Kim Kordonowy
  • Second Place – Cher Petrovic
  • Third Place – Mary Osborne
  • Honorable Mention – Jo Jasper Dean, Dion Dion, Lauren Mervilus and Ellen DeBold
  • People’s Choice – Kevin Bullock

Mary Osborne’s piece earned third-place honors.

“Our student show is always one of my favorites,” said Mark Weber, professor of art and department chair. “Our students are incredibly talented, and it’s a beautiful sight to see the lobby and commons bursting with their work.”
