St. Louis Community College at Wildwood will host the 14th annual Wildwood BBQ Bash Sept. 28, 29 and 30.

Presented by St. Louis Home Fires and the City of Wildwood, this free community festival features award-winning barbeque and entertainment, along with family-friendly activities and a Saturday night fireworks display.

“We’re excited for the Wildwood BBQ Bash to return to the campus of STLCC-Wildwood,” said Steve Collins, Ph.D., interim associate provost of STLCC-Wildwood. “We invite students and staff from across the college to come out to Wildwood and enjoy this community celebration.”

Along with hosting the event, STLCC will support the Wildwood BBQ Bash in a variety of ways.

Sponsorship
As a sponsor of the Wildwood BBQ Bash, the campus will have a booth prominently located on the grounds to promote college programs and events. Anyone interested in volunteering should email Gina Tarte, marketing and communications coordinator, at gtarte@stlcc.edu.

Parking
While free shuttle service is available at several off-site locations, the STLCC Foundation will offer paid parking at two locations. All proceeds from the sale of paid parking on these lots will support student scholarships at the Wildwood campus.

“We’re always looking for ways to support our students in their educational pursuits,” said Jo-Ann Digman, executive director of the STLCC Foundation. “We appreciate the opportunity to fundraise at the Wildwood BBQ Bash, and we hope visitors feel good knowing that the money they spend on parking will benefit students in this community.”

The STLCC Foundation-managed lots are located:

  • on Generations Drive, south of the YMCA and east of STLCC-Wildwood (the GPS address is 2665 Highway 109, but access to the lot is via New College Avenue to Generations Drive). The cost is $10 per car on Friday, Saturday until 5 p.m. and Sunday, with no re-entry. After 5 p.m. on Saturday, the price to park on this lot will be $15 per car with no re-entry.
  • at Rockwood Bank, northeast corner of Highway 109 and New College Avenue (the GPS address is 2620 Highway 109, but access to the lot is via New College Avenue). The cost is $10 per car, with no re-entry.

Sign Language Interpretation
New this year, students and professional interpreters, including alumni and faculty connected with STLCC’s deaf communications studies program, will provide sign language interpreting during activities and performances featured on the Mari de Villa Main Stage.

Eric Driskill, associate professor, is coordinating this effort for the college.

“Our goal is to make this event accessible to the deaf community,” said Driskill. “In addition to showcasing the interpreting skills of our students and professional interpreters, we encourage community members to engage with Deaf students and interpreting students and learn more about American Sign Language.”
