The St. Louis Community College men’s soccer team looks to continue its perfect season today (Oct. 12) when the Archers travel to Southwestern Illinois College for a 4 p.m. match.
The Archers (15-0-0) claimed the Missouri Community College Athletic Association and Region XVI regular-season titles after defeating State Fair Community College 4-0 Oct. 8 in Sedalia, Mo.
Mattias Tonking, Dyan Chapa and Josh Graham scored for the Archers. The other score came as a result of the ball crossing the goal line off a Roadrunner defender. Goalkeepers Braedan Passalis and Scott Caraway combined for the squad’s 10th shutout of the season.
STLCC continues to hold the No. 1 spot in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association Division I poll. The Archers also extended their regular-season winning streak to 34 matches dating back to the 2015 season.
STLCC closes out the regular season with a road game Oct. 14 at Metropolitan Community College-Blue River, and a home match against the Lindenwood University-Belleville junior varsity. Both contests kick off at 4 p.m.
The Region XVI Tournament is slated Oct. 21, 24 and 28. The Archers will host a quarterfinal match at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Florissant Valley campus. Should they win, the Archers then would host a semifinal match at 2 p.m. Oct. 24. A semifinal victory would allow them to host the Region XVI championship, slated for 2 p.m. Oct. 28.
