STLCC Welcomes Heartland St. Louis Black Chamber of Commerce

St. Louis Community College-William J. Harrison Education Center has partnered with the Heartland St. Louis Black Chamber of Commerce to create the Entrepreneurship Academy.

To celebrate the partnership, Heartland will host a launch of the academy 5-6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, at its new location in the Harrison Education Center. Community leaders and small business owners will tour the facility and receive an overview of what the chamber will offer to the community.

“Bringing an entrepreneur enterprising opportunity to north St. Louis City is a great step in the
right direction to make an economic impact on the Greater St. Louis Area,” said Veta Jeffery, managing board member of the Heartland St. Louis Black Chamber of Commerce. “By offering black business owners the opportunity to not only join the Heartland St. Louis Black Chamber of Commerce and enjoinder the resources and strategic infrastructure that comes with that membership, but to also have a space from which to work and grow their businesses is a great combination. With St. Louis being home to various innovation districts, this center provides space and community support allowing black businesses to create economic opportunities for themselves,”

The Harrison Center opened in the JeffVanderLou neighborhood in 2010, and offers general education courses as well as training programs that include paramedic and emergency medical technology. The 31,000 square-foot “green” facility features an art studio, outreach center science, and computer labs that contain the latest audio-visual technology.

“The Harrison Center provides that gateway into the college and supports the community in a fresh and vibrant way,” said Larry Johnson Jr., provost at the college’s Forest Park campus. “This partnership would involve strengthening the college’s reach to offer potential workshops that span across the spectrum from developing a business plan, money management, applying for Disadvantaged Business Enterprise licensure and more.”
