STLCC Students, Alumnus Garner GSLAA Scholarships

Two current students and one alumnus of the General Fine Arts program at St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley have received scholarships from the Greater St. Louis Art Association (GSLAA).

Current students Alana Givens and Lamir Lowe, and alumnus Brock Seals each received a $2,500 scholarship. Seals currently is studying at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

GSLAA provides four $2,500 scholarships to selected area art students each year, based on review of submitted artwork.

In past years the competition was limited to high school students preparing for college, but this year it was expanded to include students already currently enrolled in college. The response this year was described by GSLAA’s Scholarship Committee as “phenomenal” and the selection of winners as “an extremely difficult task.”

Students apply for these scholarships by completing a basic information form and submitting digital photos of their artwork. Members of the GSLAA Board of Directors award the scholarships on the merit of the work submitted with the application.

The GSLAA is a non-profit organization that engages in fund-raising activities such as the art festivals held in Queeny Park each year. These activities are geared toward two goals — educating the public in the area of fine art and fine craft, and raising funds to provide scholarships and grants to the larger metropolitan area residents.
