The St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley honored the STLCC men’s soccer team for successfully advancing to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Tournament with a celebration.
The event took place in the Student Center on the STLCC-Florissant Valley campus. Students, faculty and staff were in attendance to congratulate the Archers on a job well done.
The Archers earned the No. 1 seed at the NJCAA tournament in Prescott, Arizona in early November. Their season record was 23-1-0. The team earned status as champions in the Midwest Community College Athletic Conference, Region 16 and Central District. For seven weeks, the Archers held the No. 1 ranking. The season ended with a win and a loss at nationals, closing at No. 5.
“In 2017, we took it to the next level, repeating as MCCAC champs, Region 16 champs, District champs, qualifying for the national tournament, and the outstanding 37 regular season game win streak,” said Tim Mosby, head coach. “Next year, we look to continue moving toward our goal of a national championship.”
Mosby noted the 2017 season was a historic step forward. “The best in districtwide athletics history. The buildup to positive results has come over the last several years. We notched 16 wins in 2015 and celebrated an 18-win regional championship season in 2016.”
Mosby said the men’s soccer players and staff appreciated the celebration and all of the support throughout the season. “It was a kind gesture and a perfect culminating event to get together and reflect on all of our successes.”
