The son of a former St. Louis Community College soccer player is making a name for himself on both the United States men’s U-17 and U-20 teams.
Jeff Sargent was a defender on the STLCC-Florissant Valley men’s soccer team in the late 1980s. His son Josh is only the second U.S. men’s player ever to have competed for the U-17 and U-20 World Cup squads in the same year.
As noted in a recent article in the Post-Dispatch, the elder Sargent said the rise to stardom has not changed his son.
“I’ve still got to catch up on everything that’s gone on with him,” he said in the article. “But the best part is he’s still remaining the same person he was before all this happened. And I’m so proud of him for that.”
