Nelson of STLCC Appointed to State Commission

Governor Jay Nixon announced that he has appointed Mary E. Nelson (D), of St. Louis, to serve on the State Highways and Transportation Commission. The Commission works to preserve, enhance and support the state’s transportation system. The Commission makes and tracks transportation policy, and has authority over all state transportation programs and facilities, as provided by law, including bridges, highways, aviation, railroads, public transportation, ports, and waterborne commerce.

“Mary has been a dedicated public servant for many years, and I look forward to her continuing that strong record of public service on the State Highways and Transportation Commission as it addresses the vital and challenging issues our transportation system faces,” Gov. Nixon said.

Nelson is general counsel and chief legal officer for St. Louis Community College, and previously served on the Missouri Administrative Hearing Commission. She is a past president of the Mound City Bar Association. From 2002 to 2004, Nelson was President of the Board of Police Commissioners for the City of St. Louis. Nelson obtained her undergraduate degree from Princeton University and her law degree from the University of Missouri.

The Governor appointed Nelson for a term ending March 1, 2017. Her appointment will be subject to confirmation by the Missouri Senate.
