St. Louis Community College student Darryl Downing is the 2014 recipient of the UMB Bank Endowed Scholarship in Business Administration. Downing is studying business administration at STLCC-Florissant Valley.
Due to a life changing accident six years ago, Downing adopted the philosophy that though his body may be broken, his mind is still whole. That attitude spurred him to enroll at STLCC-Florissant Valley.
“I’m very grateful to the STLCC Foundation and UMB Bank for this Endowed Scholarship in Business Administration,” he said. “This scholarship will aid in transforming my disability into a ‘this ability.’”
UMB established the endowed scholarship at the STLCC Foundation’s 2012 Falling in Love in Five Courses gala.
“Supporting our community and those who are making it a better place to live has always been a priority at UMB,” said Tom Chulick, chair and CEO of UMB Bank in St. Louis. “Darryl is absolutely deserving of this scholarship, which can been seen by the dedication he has to his studies, and we are looking forward to his bright future.”
To be eligible for this scholarship, students must meet a list of criteria, including enrollment at STLCC, interest in banking, finance or economics, and a minimum grade-point average of 3.0.
