These teams coordinate the college’s resources to address the needs of individuals who are displaying disruptive or concerning behaviors in order to recommend interventions aimed to help the individual gain the most successful outcome possible. The BIT process also provides an accessible avenue for those who have concerns about an individual’s behavior to report those concerns.
The goals of BIT are to:
- Deter crises before they occur through outreach and education programming, consultation, appropriate assessment and referrals.
- Ensure that those whose behavior is of concern are contacted through follow-up processes and are provided information about appropriate services so they have the opportunity to improve their welfare.
- Create a unified reporting and tracking system that will allow BIT members to observe patterns of behavior to elicit threat/risk assessment and provide a documented response to distressed individuals and recommend appropriate interventions.
