A bounce this way or a break that way, and last weekend’s trip to Chicago looks very different for the St. Louis Community College volleyball team.
The Archers dropped the weekend’s first game to Lake County College by the narrowest of margins, falling in five sets, 25-22, 23-25, 22-25, 25-22, 13-15.
Physically fatigued and mentally drained following the loss to Lake County, a day off would have been nice, but the Archers had no such convenience. They lost their second game of the day to talented Harper College in three sets, 11-25, 13-25, 16-25.
“In the Lake County game, we played really well, very similar to SWIC (last week),” STLCC head coach Johnna Kinney said. “Great communication, solid defensive play.”
“We played Harper afterward, and they were just gassed and had a bit of a mental letdown,” Kinney added. “If we played Harper on a different day, the outcome may not change, but it definitely would have been a different match.”
STLCC will have to rebound quickly, as the team travels Aug. 27 to Lewis and Clark Community College for its second NJCAA Division I opponent in four games.
“We’ve been very pleased with the effort so far,” Kinney said. “Hopefully, we’ll be mentally recharged, and I think this group rebounds pretty well.”
