Mr. October of 2011, Cardinals third baseman David Freese, enhanced his reputation for saving his best for the postseason last night in St. Louis’ 6-1 win over Pittsburgh in Game 5 of the National League Division Series.

A St. Louis Community College graduate, Freese struggled at the plate throughout the National League Division Series. But in Wednesday’s contest, Freese clubbed a two-run home run in the second inning to drive in what proved to be the winning runs and propel the Cardinals to the National League Championship Series that opens Friday at Busch Stadium. Pitcher Adam Wainwright earned the complete-game win, his second of the series.
